Empowering girls and young women to learn, lead, and thrive.
At South Sudanese Women in Medicine (SSWIM), we believe that every girl deserves the opportunity to reach her full potential. Today, we are proud to introduce the Empowering Her Future Initiative—a flagship initiative designed to equip girls and young women with the knowledge, skills, opportunities, and confidence to thrive.
The initiative was established in response to the realities faced by many girls and young women in South Sudan. Despite their resilience and potential, too many continue to encounter barriers to education, health, leadership opportunities, mentorship, and economic participation. We believe these challenges can be addressed through collective action, meaningful partnerships, and sustained investment in girls and young women.
The Empowering Her Future Initiative adopts a holistic approach that recognizes that empowerment extends beyond education alone. Girls need access to quality health information and services, strong mentors and role models, leadership opportunities, practical life and employability skills, supportive communities, and environments that enable them to succeed.
Our Vision
A future where every girl and young woman is healthy, educated, confident, and empowered to achieve her full potential.
Our Mission
To empower girls and young women through holistic, evidence-informed programs that promote health, education, leadership, mentorship, innovation, life skills, and economic opportunity.
Why This Initiative Matters
Investing in girls and young women is one of the most effective ways to strengthen families, build resilient communities, and advance sustainable development. When girls are healthy, educated, skilled, and empowered, they become leaders, innovators, entrepreneurs, health professionals, educators, and changemakers who contribute to the social and economic progress of their communities and country.
The Empowering Her Future Initiative seeks to create pathways that enable every girl to learn, lead, and thrive.
Official Launch
We are delighted to announce that the Empowering Her Future Initiative will be officially launched on 21 July 2026 at the STEM Centre, University of Juba, in commemoration of World Youth Skills Day 2026.
The launch will bring together government representatives, development partners, educators, health professionals, youth leaders, civil society organizations, the private sector, and community members to celebrate girls' potential and reaffirm our shared commitment to investing in their future.
Join the Movement
Empowering girls is a shared responsibility. We invite individuals and organizations to partner with us by becoming mentors, volunteers, advocates, sponsors, and collaborators in creating opportunities for girls and young women across South Sudan.
Together, we can build a future where every girl has the opportunity to learn, lead, and thrive.
